The gait belt shown here is used by a caregiver to help an Alzheimer patient walk safely. The belt fits waists from 28 to 42 inches around and is secured about the patient's waist by velcro....the velcro holds firmly while walking, but comes apart easily when removal is desired. Comes with either a black ..this band is where you hold on to the belt as the patient walks... this allows the patient maximum freedom of motion, yet provides the caregiver a strong support to prevent a fall. As you know, Alzheimer patients are especially prone to falls. Hip fractures are relatively common among such patients. If you have an Alzheimer patient who falls a lot, you might want to put extra padding around the hip area as a precaution. Padding could be as simple as a small towel or cloth tucked in the underwear or pinned to the inside of pants.
