Do you, or someone you know, care for a demented person who wanders? ... Wandering is dangerous for the patient and the caregiver!...One really effective way to keep such patients from wandering past a doorway or entrance is to block the door or entrance way with the Door Entry Barrier shown here.
Many nursing homes use this device with excellent results. Here is why the barrier works. To use this device, you stretch it entirely across the doorway and attach it to the door frame with velcro, no tools needed. The big red stop sign is easily seen by even demented patients. Their first reaction is to stop, just like the sign says. It's not surprising that the bright red stop sign really stops gets noticed by patients...after all, during our lives, we are conditioned to stop at red stop signs as we drive our cars. It simply becomes a habit to stop at red stop signs-even when they are posted on doors! The red stop sign also works well because many demented patients, especially alzheimer patients, have trouble seeing blue and green colors, but they do have great ability to see red and yellow, which are the colors on the barrier system here. The barrier works best when placed about waist height. If you have a wanderer at home, this product will really help.
